Cuttle Fish Casting,
10am-4pm,
$150.00
Cuttlefish are marine animals of the
Cephalopod class (which includes squid and octopus). Cuttlefish are not fish
but mollusks. Cuttlefish bone is used as a calcium supplement for parrots &
reptiles and was used in face powder in the 1800s. The bone is light, porous
and full of texture.
Cuttlefish casting was an early form of
casting. It is a process which involves
splitting the bone in half and rubbing the halves together to form a flat
surface. A design is then carved into one side which becomes the mold.
Molten metal heated and free-poured into the
mold. The result is an earthy, organic, one-of-a-kind sculpture.
Includes 2oz bronze
casting material. Silver casting material will be available to purchase. You
can bring sterling silver, finished pmc errors, or sterling silver flatware
to cast.
